There are a few animals that stand as icons for wildlife in the Rocky Mountains, one of which stands as a symbol of the stoic demeanor that life up high demands. The Bighorn sheep has been that icon since the days of old, and while the sheep are not solely denizens of the rocky tundra, their presence and the resounding echoes of their fall rut battles bouncing off canyon walls stands as a pure symbol of life among the geological giants.
Faceoff comes from a brief visit with a band of these majestic creatures as they gathered around a high country lake for an afternoon drink and graze. This gentleman was the elder of the band, and one of the few full-curl adults I've observeded to date, providing a few poses among the wary looks usually given to humans before returning to his watchful gaze over the family.
